Blue Mountains Aboriginal Culture
and Resource Centre
Elders
At the Blue Mountains Aboriginal Culture & Resource Centre (A.C.R.C.), our Elders Support Program has a wide range of support services for our Indigenous Elders located in the Blue Mountains.
All Blue Mountains Indigenous Elders aged 50 years and over are eligible, providing they are registered with My Aged Care.
We assist with signing up and navigating the My Aged Care System; they provide support services in the home, for example, domestic cleaning, shopping, social visits, activities and Allied Health Services.
Wellbeing phone calls are made on a weekly basis providing social support and identifying needs. We also offer, assistance with advocacy and referrals where and when necessary.
Twice a month the A.C.R.C. combines with Partnered Organisations to hold Health Sessions. These sessions include morning teas and lunches, creating a safe space where Elders can enjoy each other’s company, and have a yarn and learn more about Health.
Elders are also offered trips away and day excursions. For example, trips have included 3 day trips to Canberra and also to Gerringong and day trips such as the Bathurst Show. Elders have also participated in the Elders Olympics. The Elders have also become involved in other programs where the passing on of knowledge, creating mentorship to our youth and speaking into the growth of our Community and the Closing The Gap in the Blue Mountains, all have been a pivotal role taken on graciously and with intent by our knowledge holders.
